Welcome to the first post for Summer Reading!

Today's featured character is LeKrista Scott from Scorned by Tyffani Clark Kemp. LeKrista is up to her neck in vampires, but I'm sure she has time for some fun summer activities. LeKrista, what are your plans for the summer?

I knew Eddie was behind me before I turned around. I could feel him…and his horde.

"LeKrista." His deep voice was empty and flat. "Pierce."

I turned and frowned at Parashie, Maaren, and Dayla and they scowled right back.

"When I invited you to bowl with us," I said, "I meant you. Not your harem."

Eddie's taciturn lips turned up into a genuine smile, one laced with mischief. "You didn't specify."

I made a face at him and fanned my sweaty brow. The AC was out in the bowling alley and they had to doors all open, but there was just too much space for the two doors on either end to cool off.

"So this is how you spend your summer evenings?" Eddie asked. The three women were quiet, as usual.

"You couldn't have brought Bomani at least?" I countered. The African Princess was the only one of Edgar's girls who I even remotely got along with.

"Good evening, Edgar." Roman's smooth, all encompassing accent brought my head up. He'd surprised me and the grin on his face was evidence that he was amused. "LeKrista."

He took my hand and lifted it to his lips. I'd only invited him to make the game entertaining. He completely ignored Pierce, who chuckled as he let the snub it roll off his back.

"I brought Tate," Roman continued and my best friend - palest skin, burgundy hair, and red velvet cape - bounced into view.

"Hi!" she squealed and wrapped me in a tight hug. "We brought our own balls and shoes." She flashed a pair bowling shoes that were actually cute. "Are you ready?"

"Eddie has to -"

"Already done." Edgar held up his ball. "We have enough for two teams of four."

I nodded. "So, it's to be competition." With so many preternatural creatures this was sure to be an exciting game. "The rules are: there are no rules."

Roman snorted.

"Don't be like that," I said. "You're on my team. Tate, you're our handicap."

She laughed. She had the potential to be a powerful Mage, but she chose not to cultivate her abilities because she wouldn't be able to hang out with vampires. That made her almost human normal. "Alright," Tate agreed. "What's Pierce?"

"Handicap number two."

"I'll show you handicap." Pierce's amber eyes flashed and I grinned.

"I guess I'll go first," Roman announced. He picked up his bowling ball - it was black with sparkles and said 'The Centurian' in blood red lettering - and took his position.

"That's so not your ball," I giggled.

"Sh," he said. "I'm concentrating."

I shook my head, but waited with my arms crossed over my chest as he stepped up to the lane with perfect form and sent that ridiculous ball rolling toward the pins. It hugged the right side, but there was enough speed and spin that when it reached the end of the lane it curved around and struck the center pin sending the others flying.

I threw my arms in the air and cried, "Strike!" This was going to be exciting.

Now LeKrista is running for her life and Roman is trying to save it, but she’s not sure if he really cares or if he has some underhanded reason for keeping her alive. She seeks help from Mages but they refuse to help her, even though she exhibits high potential as a Mage herself. In a last ditch effort, Roman whisks LeKrista away, but Perdita finds them.
