Here it is...the Star Trek babbling I promised you. You're very excited; I can tell. And if you're looking for an in-depth review, you won't find it here.

Can I just say how much I loved it? The action! The Klingons! Uhura facing down Klingons! Uhura/Spock! Benedict Cumberbatch's voice!

Yeah, I kind of didn't want him to be Khan, but I think he made a very good Khan. That man could read the phone book to me. :)

As always, Uhura kicked ass, and I really liked Dr. Marcus. I look forward to seeing more of her. Plus, a shout-out to Chapel. Now if only we could see the reboot version of her.

I saw it twice and really want to see it again.

In other Trek news, hubby and I have made it to Enterprise...and we're not sure what to think.

First of all, what's up with the power ballad theme song?

Moving on, it makes for an interesting prequel, but it feels...angstier. I wasn't sure about Hoshi, what with the whining in the beginning, but she's growing on me. Tripp and T'Pol continue to grate, but I'm willing to give them time to mellow.

Love the doctor on this one (and it's not only because hubby and I met him in person. In fact, hubby held his arm so his wife could spray him with cologne. It was a weird panel.)

I think we have two seasons left on this one. Please tell me the dog makes it out alive.

I've also signed up for another month of #WriteMotivation. This month, my goals are:

1) Complete at least four chapters of the WHITE SPIRIT revision.

2) Work on it every day.

3) Start researching trolls for my YA, MAYBERRY WITH MONSTERS (working title).

Let's do this!

Also, I finished up my Summer Reading series of posts on Friday. If you missed any of the authors, here's a comprehensive list:

Alexandra Christian, paranormal erotic romance
Zillah Anderson, young adult
Berengaria Brown, m/m romance
Selah Janel, horror and urban fantasy
Angelia Sparrow and Naomi Brooks, paranormal erotic romance
Tyffani Clark Kemp, urban fantasy and paranormal romance

Hi! I've followed your posts on my DW network list and am so glad you've gotten to Enterprise (my favorite Trek).

There is some settling-in that happens in the early part of Season One, and your choice of the word 'angstier' is probably accurate, though I think I interpreted it as more realistic. I found Jonathan Archer to be the captain I could most relate to - the man is human, he has his flaws, he makes mistakes and learns from them. And yes, I agree, Doctor Phlox is wonderful!

As with all Trek series, some episodes work less well than others, but in general I love it. Season 3 is my favorite, though it's not everyone's cup of tea. It's dark, and pretty much a season-long story arc with a LOT of detail that turns out to be significant foreshadowing of events. There is a great deal of character growth/change as the characters are impacted by events and the limited choices they are faced with.

And yes, Porthos is wonderful! There was a line in a fanfic that has always stayed with me – "It's something about striving to be the type of man your dog thinks you are." (Husks by Juli, Season 3 spoilers)

If you want fic, the Warp 5 Complex is the largest ENT archive, although AO3 is getting more now.

DS9 is my next favorite Trek. If you (and he) liked that, ENT season 3 should resonate. There are things I don't like about it (but not going to be spoilery with my opinions) but overall it's an amazing journey.

I wish there had been stronger and better follow-up to it, but Season 4 felt very uneven in the writing - some good, some eps had some very OOC voices.

OMG STAR TREK WAS SO GOOD. Not perfect, but so good! I really really hope they're going to keep making movies *cough*. I need some other franchise to pour money into after The Hobbit finishes...

Also, Mayberry with Monsters? That sounds like it's going to be some story...

Good luck with your goals!

And the Enterprise never grew on me. But I like it more than Voyager. I really dislike Captain Janeway.
