"...I've fallen in love with a man on the run."

A little Civil Wars for your Tuesday afternoon. It's a lyric from "Devil's Backbone," which is the song that currently reminds me of Duke Crocker. (Speaking of, I have a whole playlist. I need to share it at some point.)

So, what is making me happy this week?

*I figured out what was bothering me in MAYBERRY WITH MONSTERS. I originally had an infodump at the beginning where Dani's mom explained the whole witchy thing to her, and it just wasn't right. I've now redone it where Dani is only getting bits of info as she goes along.

*TV is really making me happy. Loved last Friday's episode of Haven, last Monday's Sleepy Hollow, and I squeed all through the 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who.

*Possible full time job openings are coming down the pipeline next month. Wish me luck!

*Thanksgiving is this Thursday here in the USA. We're hosting this year, and I'm excited about having everyone over. Plus, I can continue my tradition of watching the parade. It's not Thanksgiving without it. Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

What's making you happy this week?
ravenela: (Redhead)
A) Because I am an awards show junkie, I missed this past week's OUAT. I plan to catch up with it this Friday.

2) Speaking of the Golden Globes, who else watched it? Loved Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as the hosts. Grumpy cat!Tommy Lee Jones was fun. Also, yay, Adele, for beating Taylor Swift. Rock! And I'm so happy for Ben Affleck for winning Best Director and Best Picture - Drama.

Of course, I squeed with all the Les Miz wins. Yay!!!

C) I have a job interview tomorrow for one of the Librarian positions I applied for. Wish me luck!

4) I don't think I have a last thing. Just wanted to even out the list. :)

1) My Les Miz: 25th Anniversary Concert came today. I know what I'll be watching tonight.

2) No word on the full-time librarian position yet. I continue to wait.

3) Thoughts on OUAT )

4) Weekly update on OF THE SEA coming soon.

5) The Golden Globes will be on this Sunday. Who's going to watch it with me? :)

How is your day going?
ravenela: (Tardis)
The library system I work for posted new full-time librarian positions today, and I applied for one of them. I hope I get one.

I also got in touch with a long time friend. We were pen pals back in high school and college, but we lost touch in our adult years. I decided to see if her e-mail still worked, and yay! It did. :)

Happy Halloween, everyone! Hope there are candy and costumes in your future tonight. And if you live up north where Sandy hit, I hope things are getting better.

Allow me to officially announce it. I have a new job. I'm a temp part-time library assistant, and I finally have my foot in the door in the Wake County system. Pardon me while I do the happy dance. Join me if you'd like.

Also, NaNo is right around the corner (tomorrow actually), and I have a story all ready to go. I'm going to work on the merman in Charleston story that's been eating my brain all summer. I'm very excited about this story, and not just because my main male character looks like Chris Hemsworth in my head. This story is actually better planned than White Spirit or my YA Mayberry with Monsters were so I have a good feeling about this one.

Can't wait to get started.

Are you ready to Halloween and NaNo?

As I sit here, the last chapter of White Spirit is staring at me. Unfortunately, with all the changes I've made, it's going to have to be rewritten from scratch. *Sigh* The task feels daunting, but I think I can handle it. I'm at the point where I'm just ready for this to be finished. My new shiny keeps beckoning from its notebook.

I also think I may have a job. I was asked to interview for a temporary part-time library assistant position. The temp part seems to mean I might move from branch to branch throughout the system so there's not an official ending date. But this is a foot in the door and might lead to that elusive librarian position I've been dreaming of.

In the world of TV, all my shows continue to rock my socks. I haven't seen this week's Revolution yet (I'm still mad at them for last week), but I'm caught up on everything else.

So, are any of you guys watching?

Things are starting to happen with my library career. I volunteer at the local library, and my first day was Monday. I think it went really well. I was back in the stacks - pulling holds and scanning books. It felt good...really good. I've missed being in the library.

You see, I worked at a library in South Carolina for six years. Loved it so much I earned my master's degree. Then, my husband, The Bearded One, accepted a wonderful job at Duke University. So, we packed up and moved. Sadly, I haven't been able to find a job as quick, but I keep looking.

And now I think things are starting to happen.

On the writing front, I'm on page 172 out of 228 on the revisions. This version is cleaner than the last one, but I know there are still some inconsistencies. I'm going to need a beta reader or two if anyone is up for it.

Finally, who here watches Once Upon a Time or Revolution? I need to talk about them.

OUAT spoilers ahead )

Revolution )

What did you think?
ravenela: (Batgirl)
Revising needs to be happening now, but I wanted to take a break and let you know the good news. No, I have not found a job yet (I have several applications out, though), but I did get a spot volunteering at the local library. At least it's a step in the right direction.

This is an upswing after the blow that was not getting my public library certification (yes, you have to be licensed to answer patron's questions these days). It seems I need to take an extra collection development class. Not sure how I'm going to accomplish that, but I'll worry about it next week.

In other news, I'm more than halfway through the White Spirit rewrite. I am going to finish it, if not by October 15, then by the end of this month. Which means, I'll be free to write the merman in Charleston story that's been eating my brain since this summer for NaNo.

Oh, who's doing NaNoWriMo with me this year? I'm not playing completely by the rules this year. I'm shooting for 30,000 words in a month as opposed to 50,000. But I'm definitely joining for the camaraderie. Who's with me?

All right, back to the writing.
